BISP stands for the Benazir Income Support Programme, Pakistan’s main federal cash support programme. The number 8171 is its official service for checking your status. Be careful: 8171 is the only official number, so ignore any other number or website that claims to check or register you. The official web portal is 8171.bisp.gov.pk.
Two ways to check your BISP 8171 status
You can check your status in two free ways, both using only your CNIC. The table shows which one fits you.

How to check BISP 8171 online, step by step
These are the steps for the official web portal.
Step 1: Open the official portal
Go to 8171.bisp.gov.pk. This is the official BISP web portal. Avoid copycat websites that copy the name and look similar. Check the address bar before you type your CNIC.
Step 2: Enter your CNIC
Type your 13-digit CNIC number without dashes. The system uses this to find your household record.
Step 3: Enter the code
Type the captcha code shown on the screen. This is a simple check to confirm you are a real person, not a machine.
Step 4: Check your result
Click the check button. The portal shows your eligibility and payment status on the screen.
How to check by SMS (no internet needed)
If you do not have internet, you can still check. Send your 13-digit CNIC number, without dashes, to 8171 by SMS. You will receive a reply about your status. This is useful on a basic phone or a slow connection. The SMS service uses the same records as the web portal, so the result is the same.
Understanding your result
When you check, the result usually shows one of these outcomes:
- Eligible, with a payment. Your household qualifies and an amount is shown or due. Follow the on-screen or SMS instructions for how and where to collect it.
- Eligible, payment not ready. You qualify, but no payment is due right now. Check again later.
- Not eligible. Your household did not qualify under the current survey and score. You can ask to be re-surveyed at a Tehsil office.
- Not found, or survey needed. Your CNIC is not in the system yet. You need to complete the NSER survey, which we explain below.

How much is the BISP payment in 2026
As of January 2026, the Benazir Kafaalat quarterly stipend was increased to Rs 14,500, up from Rs 13,500. It is paid every three months to eligible women. There are other BISP payments too, such as the Benazir Nashonuma nutrition stipend for mothers and young children. Payment amounts can change over time, so treat any figure as “as of” its date and confirm the current amount on the official portal or by sending your CNIC to 8171. How you receive your payment
Eligible women receive BISP payments through the programme’s official payment system. When a payment is due, your result on 8171 or your SMS reply will guide you on the next step. Never share your OTP, PIN, or password with anyone who offers to help you collect it, even if they claim to be staff. If you have any problem collecting a payment you are eligible for, go to your nearest BISP Tehsil office with your original CNIC.
Who is eligible for BISP
BISP is for low-income families. Eligibility is decided from the NSER (National Socio-Economic Registry) survey and a PMT score, which is a poverty score the government calculates. Lower-income households, widows, divorced women, and persons with disabilities are given priority. The PMT score works the same way as in other programs. Common mistakes and fraud to avoid
A few simple errors and scams cause most problems. Avoid these:
- Trusting any number except 8171. It is the only official BISP number. Ignore other numbers that claim to check or register you.
- Using a copycat website. Only 8171.bisp.gov.pk is official. Always check the address bar.
- Paying an agent. Checking and registering are free. Never pay anyone.
- Sharing your OTP, PIN, or password. No real BISP staff will ever ask for these. Anyone who does is trying to scam you.
- Entering the CNIC wrong. Use the 13 digits with no dashes and no spaces, exactly as on your card.
- Believing fake “double payment” or “bonus” messages. These are common scams. Confirm everything only on 8171.
How to register if you are not in the system
